Privacy Policy

Forkt keeps your recipes and their forks (custom edits). To do that we store your account details and the recipes you add, and we send some recipe text and photos to service providers that help the app work. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app at any time.

• Account information. Your name, email address, profile photo if you add one, and a securely hashed version of your password.
• Recipe content. The recipes, ingredients, steps, notes, ratings, photos, and source links you import or create.
• Photos. Images you take or choose to import a recipe, add a picture to one, or set as your profile photo. Recipe-import photos are analyzed to extract the recipe text, then stored privately with that recipe. Pictures you add to a recipe and your profile photo are stored in public file storage (see Pictures below).
• Technical information. Basic technical data needed to run and troubleshoot the app, such as your IP address, device type, app version, error reports, and request logs.
• Usage information. Which screens you open and which actions you take, such as importing, forking, or cooking a recipe. This never includes the contents of your recipes, and it is tied to your Forkt user ID, not your name or email. You can turn it off under Profile, Usage analytics.

• To provide the core features: importing, forking, cooking, saving, and sharing recipes.
• To create and secure your account and sign you in.
• To send you account emails, such as a password-reset link when you ask for one.
• If you join the launch list on our website, to email you when Forkt launches. Every such email has an unsubscribe link.
• To diagnose errors and keep the app working.
• To understand which features are used so we can improve them.
• To prevent abuse, such as repeated failed sign-in attempts.

Importing a recipe, applying a quick change, and estimating calories send the relevant recipe text or photos to Anthropic, which runs the AI model that reads and edits recipes. An import also sends the names and descriptions of your collections, so it can suggest where to file the recipe. This content is used only to return the result to you. We do not use your recipes to train AI models.

You can turn AI features off in your profile. While they are off, nothing is sent to Anthropic, and you add recipes by typing them in.

Recipes are private unless you share one. When you do, anyone with the link can view that recipe. Another Forkt user can fork their own copy of it, and their copy notes your name and the recipe it came from. You can stop sharing at any time, which turns the link off. Copies other people already made stay with them.

Pictures you add to a recipe are stored in public file storage so they can show up in the app and on shared recipe pages. Your profile photo is stored the same way. The app shows it only to you, on your Profile, and never on shared recipe pages. Each picture has a long web address that is not listed anywhere, but it is not password protected: anyone who has the address can open the picture. Do not add a picture you would not want seen by someone who gets that address.

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers that process data only to run Forkt on our behalf:

• Anthropic. AI processing of recipe text and photos for import, quick change, and calorie estimates.
• Supabase. Database and photo storage.
• Vercel. Application hosting.
• Resend. Sending account emails such as password resets, a welcome email when you sign up, a reminder if you haven't used Forkt in a while, and keeping the launch list.
• Sentry. Error monitoring.
• PostHog. Product analytics: which screens and actions are used, with no recipe content.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Forkt and its users. If Forkt is ever sold or merged with another company, your information may transfer to the new owner, who would have to honor this policy.

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Profile, then Delete account, inside the app. Deleting your account permanently removes your account, recipes, forks, cooks, profile photo, and the photos you imported recipes from. Replacing or removing your profile photo deletes the old one from file storage. Pictures you added to recipes are not deleted from file storage, because another user's fork of your recipe may use the same picture. You can email us to have a specific picture removed. Some routine backups and error logs may persist for a short period before they expire.

Depending on where you live, including California and the EU and UK, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy, and object to how we use it. Most of this you can do yourself in the app, and you can delete your account at any time. For anything else, email support@forkt.net. We will answer within 45 days. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps and websites.

Forkt is run from the United States, and your information is processed and stored on servers in the United States and wherever our service providers operate. If you use Forkt from another country, you understand that your information will be transferred there.

Passwords are stored only as a salted hash, never in plain text. Recipe-import photos are kept in private storage, and traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that your information will never be accessed or lost, but we take reasonable measures to protect it.

Forkt is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email support@forkt.net and we will delete it.

We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app or by email.
